This is Angela Lee Duckworth. She started her career as a management consultant, then she switched careers and became a teacher. Now she is a psychology student who focuses on educational research. In this TED talk she shares her findings regarding student achievement and their link to grit versus IQ.
If any of you are fans of Dirty Jobs, you will certainly recognize that this TED talk was conducted by Mike Rowe. This isn't an education specific talk, but instead focuses on the topic of hard work which is a relevant topic in any classroom.
This is Dr. Stuart Brown a pioneer in the research of the importance of play in early childhood. When I worked for the United Way before I started teaching our Born Learning initiative focused on parent training sessions that were all about playing with your children. I often feel that the act of playing is forgotten in education. This TED talks emphasizes the benefits of play from early childhood through adulthood.
